Hello! I’m Dwight Baer. I’d love to serve you I.T.
My passion is serving companies by helping them implement tools that use the most appropriate technology to help them achieve their business objectives so that they can deliver their products and service with consistent excellence.
I help businesses grow and improve their health by creating a secure, reliable network infrastructure so that employees have the right information at the right time to give their customers remarkable service and with that gain their loyalty.
Dwight Baer, B.Mus., MCSA, A+, CCENT, Author, Teacher
That’s a lot of letters! And each one plays an important part in my symphony.
B.Mus. That’s Bachelor of Music. I still love to sing, but that’s what I do for fun. My ability to see, create, and play complex musical compositions allows me to easily recognize the patterns and components in business and technology.
Networking in technology is essentially a symphony of highly complex and sophisticated technologies that help companies communicate and share information while keeping out unwanted intruders.
MCSA I’m a Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA)*, that helps business design and build technology solutions on the Microsoft technology stack, whether on-premises or in the cloud. I’ve installed and built-out Windows Server deployments with Active Directory (AD) as the primary directory service for Windows domain networks. *As of November 2015, one exam is passed; two more MCSA required exams are scheduled but not yet passed.
CCENT Modern companies need incredibly robust communication between their people, applications, and customers. My Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT) gives me the tools to provision and support Cisco technology to help IT organization meet the rapidly changing business demands due to technology transitions. I’ve designed and built networks to serve up to 150 client workstations. I can help you support cloud, collaboration, data centre, wireless, routing and switching, and network security — I’m your IT guy.
A+ Hardware and Software Ultimately, the sweetest music comes from the harmonies between people, processes, and the applications used to support internal and external clients. A+ certifies my understanding of the most common hardware and software technologies in business. This maestro is certified in the skills necessary to lead and support an orchestra with complex IT infrastructures. I’ve managed a help desk supporting several private schools, I’ve been a system administrator, and I’ve managed a technical support team for a retailer with 60 retail locations in Canada and United States.
Author UNIX and UNIX-like operating systems are foundational to almost all enterprise and web-based infrastructures. Not only am I a UNIX expert, I wrote the text book, “Learn UNIX in Fifteen Days” with my partner Paul Davidson. Check it out at Amazon.ca
Teacher Spending eight years at the front of the classroom as an educator helped me to realize there was an urgent need for a text book to present the materials actually taught and tested in a typical college-level UNIX course. I designed my book for students that will be the next generation of leaders using and supporting UNIX-based systems.
Entrepreneur As Founder of Net Savvy, Inc., an outsourced IT company, I’ve designed and implemented just about any configuration Windows Server and *NIX server that you can imagine. I’ve helped companies with their network infrastructure including: TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, and more. My goal is working for or partnering with an organization where I can focus on my true strengths and passions — serving you IT!
In summary, that’s me, Dwight Baer, + IT maestro, solutions architect, system administrator, and help desk manager, + Author of “Learn UNIX in Fifteen Days”, and + Technology leader that’s also a passionate teacher and outstanding communicator
